Obese?

Just when I thought I was making progress I find I am still considered OBESE. I found out my body fat for my age, height and gender is in the category of being obese. So I am in a really bad mood and not sure what to do about it. Will I ever be OK with my self image? At least when I weighed 200 plus I KNEW I was obese, but it is a real blow to hear that at a size 13 I am still obese. So will I ever be OK with my body? Probably not...this sucks!

  1. I ask myself the same thing... but from the opposite end of the spectrum. As a yo-yo dieter, I have been "thin" many times. But I am trying to remember if I was ever really happy with my body. Seems to me a few years back when I was at a very nice number, I just wanted to lose a few more pounds. (Which probably led to me gaining lots and lots instead. Sigh.)

So I am thinking we need to find a comfort with our bodies that is not about a number either that we set or that someone else sets for us. Not sure how to do it.

  2. Lesia - That is just a label, that is NOT you. You are the creator of your own self. Don't let a label determine your self worth or self image. You are beautiful and fabulous just for being YOU. YOU love yourself enough to work to be healthy because YOU are worth it. No label need define you. :) Smile m'dear.

  3. Try not to define yourself by some chart. It's just a chart. You are healthier today than you were before. Don't let that chart steal your joy :)

  4. I HATE those charts and labels! So many of them say that in order to be "healthy" I need to be at MOST 20 pounds less than I ever recall being ... and even lower than my own doctor thinks would be doable and safe.

Screw what "they" say and go by how YOU feel!

  5. I seriously think those charts do more harm than good!
Years ago I used to work constantly and ate well, even so I was still considered obese. I tried diet pills - but thankfully stopped and went to the docs to see what was up. Long story short, the doc said that I needed to be happy with who I was. I wasn't going to lose more weight (healthfully) and that I was where I was supposed to be.
To heck with the chart - you know you are making healthy choices! Celebrate all of the wonderful strides you have made and keep smiling!! You're beautiful!!

  6. awww Honey! I know how you feel. I remember seeing that word used to describe me on my medical chart a couple of years ago...and I was quite a bit thinner than I am now. It was like a slap in the face! But, I agree with what the others have said here. It's just a label...a label that does NOT describe who you are. I am telling you...when I see your photos I do NOT see an obese woman! Not at all. Shake it off and don't let that word attack how you feel about yourself. Hugs...

  8. I know how you feel, but what the others are saying is true--it's just a number on a piece of paper. It doesn't represent who you are now or who you will be in the future.

  9. The chart is just one measurement. It deals with generalities, not real people.

You know you are getting healthier all the time. That's what matters.

  10. Don't listen to the labels. Listen to how your body feels. And since you are doing it based on fat, you can be overfat and not overweight. (Even tiny skinny people can be overfat. Which just means that their muscle/fat ratio is off.)It just means that you need to build up that muscle to counteract that fat. That might not sound better, but at least you can change that number. I can't stand that word, obese. It's awful.

  11. Bad chart! Bad! Booooooo!!!!

Looking at your photo, I don't see how that's possible. You look great. A size 13 is not obese.

Don't let that label taint the progress you've made. Look at your smile!!! This is not obesity.

  12. It's just a number in someone's mind.
Don't let it be in yours.
They can't define us....even when we like the numbers....
On the scale or on a label or a web site.
    *smile!*

  13. I forgot to say....that by your picture...how in the hell can you still be labelled obese? That's just insane. You look awesome!
